Why a collision record hits a Audi hard
RS models and the R8 are enthusiast purchases where a reported collision is a deal-breaker for many buyers. Aluminum space-frame repairs are expensive and rarely invisible to a trained appraiser.
Diminished value is measured as a share of the vehicle's pre-accident market value, so the same fender-bender that costs a mainstream sedan a few thousand dollars can cost a Audi owner a five-figure sum. The at-fault driver's insurer rarely mentions it, and when pressed, offers a formula number that bears no relation to what the market actually does.
Models we commonly see
RS 6 Avant, RS 7, Q8 and SQ8, e-tron GT, R8, and A8. The list is not exhaustive; if the vehicle is a Audi, we want to see it.
What the claim looks like
- Inherent diminished value: the loss from the accident appearing on CARFAX, AutoCheck and dealer systems, measured by an independent appraiser using comparable sales for your model.
- Repair-related diminished value: additional loss where the repair was done without manufacturer certification, with non-OEM parts, or with structural work that does not meet factory specification.
- Loss of use: the reasonable rental value of a comparable vehicle for the period repairs reasonably took, not the economy rental the adjuster offered. Loss of use details.
Texas rules that apply
- The claim is against the at-fault driver and their liability insurer. Your own insurer generally does not owe diminished value under a standard Texas policy.
- You have two years from the collision to file suit.
- Recovery is reduced by any percentage of fault assigned to you.
